In South Africa, hospitality is a dynamic and fast growing industry which offers many different career opportunities. Hospitality Management is the study of the hospitality industry.
A qualification in most circumstance is awarded either by a university college dedicated to the studies of hospitality management or a business school that offers a relevant department.
As someone studying towards a qualification in the Hospitality field, one may find themselves working on a full service hospitality establishments such as a hotels, sports resorts,
cruiseliners, etc. are for specialists as there are more opportunities to have a niche-type job (for example, a pastry chef).
In the smaller hospitality establishments such as bed & breakfast, guest houses, small lodges etc. one is more likely to employ people who are willing to work across disciplines.
It is recommended when deciding on whether to specialize in one area or go the multi-disciplinary route, one should remember to always opt for something you love, enjoy and are passionate
